Illegal electronic goods smuggling network between Singapore and India busted

CHENNAI: The grey market in imported electronic goods flourishes in the city. Customers continue to flock to Kasimedu Street and Burma Bazaar, the hubs for such items.
On September 27, after the end of a 15-day operation, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials claimed to have busted an international smuggling racket and seized Rs 13.54 crore worth of electronic equipment from three places in the city. Two kingpins, who were operating an illegal network between Singapore and Chennai port, were arrested. Most of these goods would have found their way into the grey market. Full story
